Lake County Dining Guide, Part 1

July 11, 2019

From barbecue and burgers to grain bowls with fresh greens, Lake County, California keeps it real with a solid array of casual eats. Our culinary scene is blooming with upscale options too, but this week’s focus is on lunch spots and quick dinners after a day on the lake.

Casual & Cheap Eats

Richmond Park

Richmond Park Bar & Grill

Delightfully low-brow bar food right on Clear Lake
There are times you want to dress up and hit the town, and there are times when that “No Shirt, No Shoes” policy actually needs enforcing. With premium boat parking and Jimmy Buffett vibes, you can’t blame Richmond Park patrons for trying.  It’s the kind of place to catch a game and grab some salty grub after a day on the water. Their wraparound porch provides million dollar Clear Lake views, you’ll want to so stick around for sunset. Try a hot sandwich, the chili cheese fries, or one of a dozen signature burgers; and grab a milkshake or adult beverage to wash it down. More…
Wholly Bowl

The Wholly Bowl

Clean eating with vegan options and positive vibes
For super fresh, clean cuisine check out The Wholly Bowl, a hidden gem lunch spot in Lakeport.  The multicultural kitchen turns out healthy bowls and creative takes on the old standbys for around $10 each.  Locals love their Thai peanut wrap, Korean tacos, and chicken teriyaki bowl.  Feel free to ditch the meat and their signature creamy sriracha sauce for one of the best vegan lunches in Lake County.  People dig Wholly Bowl’s “positive vibes,” kid-friendly atmosphere and sunny, pooch-welcoming outdoor seating area. More.
BBQ

Danny’s Roadside Kitchen

Biker-friendly BBQ roadhouse in Lower Lake
Keep your eyes peeled for this “blink and you’ll miss it” roadhouse when traveling in Lower Lake. You’ll recognize it by the scent of sweet, juicy meats wafting through the air and the occasional motorcycle out front.  A tiny shack with no indoor seating, Danny’s is a cult favorite on this side of the lake. One grateful diner noted, “If it was in the city, there’d be a line an hour long.” Hurry over for your chance at a rack of ribs, country sides, and pork or tri-tip by the pound before the Instagram celebrities find out. We joke, but the only sort of.  It’s a small joint with a limited production, so they often sell out.  Consider yourself warned. More.
Rosales

Rosales Market

South county’s favorite taqueria inside a Middletown market
Midway between the Napa Valley and the shores of Clear Lake, Rosales Market in Middletown is a great spot for a quick lunch. Don’t let the humble exterior fool you, there’s an excellent taqueria hidden behind the guise of a convenience store. Locals rave about the chile verde, big-as-your-head burritos, and overflowing carnitas plate. Vegetarians will find solace in their soy protein dishes, and the fact that the rice and beans are lard free. Enjoy with a Mexican coke or fresh horchata, and grab a six-pack and any sundries you’ve forgotten while you’re there. More.
